Loom: Creating Short Videos

This is a process on creating short videos using Loom, a plugin you can download to Google Chrome, which can narrate and instantly share videos to communicate faster, clearer and friendlier.

This is helpful for assisting clients using short videos, for demos, and for explaining features and other tools.

System Details

Step 1: Download Loom on your browser (Google Chrome).

  • Click here for the system on how to download/install Loom.

 

Step 2: Click on the Loom logo/icon on the upper right corner of your screen.


Step 3: On the Recording Settings section, you can edit the Capture, Mic, and Camera settings.

1. Capture

  • You have the option to capture:
    1. The current tab you’re in
       
    2. The camera (front facing camera)
       
    3. The entire desktop screen
       

2. Mic

  • You have the option to choose any microphone tools or hardware you have.
     

3. Camera

  • You can choose a camera to record your video or demo.

 

Step 4: After making the necessary adjustments, you can click on Start Recording.

  • There will be a 3, 2, 1 countdown before recording starts.

 

Step 5: Record your video.

  • You will know that you are now recording by looking at 3 signs:
    1. The Loom logo changes and a red dot will flash on and off by it.
       
    2. The remaining minutes to video will appear at the bottom left corner of the screen.
       
    3. The recording settings will appear at the lower left portion of the screen.

 

Step 6: Using the recording settings.

  • Here you can edit the camera settings

  • Cancel recording

  • Finish recording

  • Pause recording
     
  • Note! Cancelling, finishing, and pausing the recording have their own keyboard shortcuts.

 

Step 7: Click on Finish recording.

  • Once you click on finish recording, a new tab will open to display the video.
     
  • Here you can then edit the title of the video, add comments, and add more context or a description.

 

Step 8: Share on social media, send the shareable link, or download to your desktop.

  • There are options to share the video on social media such as Twitter and Facebook, or you can send the video’s shareable link.
